چکیده

We address the use of hierarchical aggregation in DiffServ networks. We propose two analytical models to study the tradeoffs between signaling load and resource utilization. In the case of the signaling load, we introduce a novel performance metric that captures, simultaneously, the state information stored and the rate of signaling messages processed at routers. In the first analytical model, based on multidimensional birth-death processes, the offered load is detailed at the flow level, which allows accurate assessment of the signaling load. The second analytical model accommodates time-varying offered loads, which allows studying the tradeoffs between the time-scale of the aggregate demand and the time-scale of signaling. Our results, which also include analysis using measured traces, show that hierarchical aggregation can introduce very high signaling gains with a small penalty in terms of resource utilization, allowing significant savings in terms of network cost.

A Fuzzy Based Three Color Meter/Marker for Diffserv Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)

Differentiated Services (Diffserv) which was proposed by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), is a scalable and robust model for providing the end-to-end QoS. In the Diffserv networks, metering mechanisms are used to measure traffic stream. The single rate Three Color Meter (srTCM) [1],which was proposed by IETF,‏ meters an IP packet stream and marks its packets either green, yellow, or red....

Tradeoffs between Signaling and Resource Utilization in DiffServ Networks with Hierarchical Aggregation

In this paper, we analyze the tradeoffs between signaling and resource utilization in DiffServ networks partitioned in areas (hierarchical domains) using flow aggregates that can be dynamically adjusted. These tradeoffs are studied using two analytical models. In the first model, based on multidimensional birth-death processes, the offered load is detailed at the flow level, which allows accura...

A Differentiated Pricing Framework for Improving the Performance of the Elastic Traffics in Data Networks

Rate allocation has become a demanding task in data networks as diversity in users and traffics proliferate. Most commonly used algorithm in end hosts is TCP. This is a loss based scheme therefore it exhibits oscillatory behavior which reduces network performance. Moreover, since the price for all sessions is based on the aggregate throughput, losses that are caused by TCP affect other sessions...

End-to-end performance analysis with traffic aggregation

The provisioning of end-to-end services in presence of traffic aggregation is evaluated in the framework of the Differentiated Services QoS architecture. The effect of stream multiplexing on delay and jitter-sensitive traffic is analyzed through an experimental approach. Aggregation is evaluated in three different scenarios: with different aggregate traffic loads, with a variable number of flow...

Fuzzy Hierarchical Location-Allocation Models for Congested Systems

There exist various service systems that have hierarchical structure. In hierarchical service networks, facilities at different levels provide different types of services. For example, in health care systems, general centers provide low-level services such as primary health care services, while the specialized hospitals provide high-level services. Because of demand congestion in service networ...
